2. Statuta civilia domus mercatorum Veronae. (Verona: Hieronymus Discipulus, 1598). Binding: Seventeenth-century blind-tooled (fillets only) calf over nineteenth-century reinforcement. Remains of strings. Formerly chained: staple-marks of a hasp at head and tail of upper cover. Turquoise-edged leaves. Size: 305 × 220 × 60 mm. Size of leaf: 302 × 202 mm. A strip of parchment containing a fourteenth-century(?) manuscript legal text, probably removed when the binding was reinforced in the nineteenth century, is now pasted onto the front pastedown. ‘Die dito' in an early hand in brown ink on t3r, and occasional pointing hands. Provenance: Petrus de Saibantis (sixteenth century); ‘D. Petri de Saibantis doctoris' in brown ink on the title-page of item 1. Unidentified monogram ‘C+TI' in brown ink on A1r. Acquired by 1605: see James, Catalogus (1605), 259 [‘1599'] (‘3' in white at the head of the spine and in black across the fore-edge); probably the copy mentioned in the Benefactors' Register I 59, purchased with money given by Sir Edwin Sandys (1561-1629) in 1603.
