Copious interlinear and marginal notes in a contemporary German hand, supplying on a1v the Vita: ‘Lucius Annaeus Seneca Cordubensis philosophus Stratini(!) | Stoyci discipulus Lucani poete patruus uir doctis | ssimus(!) contentissime uite fuit tempore Neronis . . .' (drawing on Hieronymus, De uiris illustribus XII?), and synonyms, underlining, and citations from other authors, including Horace, Ovid, Cicero, Ptolemy, and Aristotle. Notes in a later German hand, summarizing and commenting on the text. Three leaves of notes in this hand, headed ‘De litterarum ac epistolarum utilitate', also containing brief descriptions of parts of Asia, are bound after the edition. Initials and the beginnings of some notes are supplied in blue or red ink; capital strokes and marginal rulings (in preparation for annotations) are supplied in red ink.
