1. R-116(1) First copy The last line on [k7r], recording the foundation of the monastery of Rougemont, is absent in this copy. Binding: Contemporary pigskin over wooden boards; two metal clasps, with decoration effaced, and catches; the vertical edges of the spine bevelled; centre- and corner-pieces lost. On both covers triple fillets form a double intersecting frame; within the inner frame triple fillets form two intersecting diagonals. At the head of the spine the title is written in a cursive fifteenth-century hand over a painted white square. Size: 305 × 218 × 40 mm. Size of leaf: 300 × 213 mm. Folio numbers are supplied in a fifteenth-century hand. Sparse ‘nota' marks and a note observing an addition to the text by Martinus Polonus are supplied in sixteenth-century German hands. The woodcuts are painted in various colours; the woodcut circles painted in red. A six-line initial ‘G' is supplied in red with reserved white decoration on [a1r]. Elsewhere two-line initials, paragraph marks, capital strokes, and underlining are supplied in red. Provenance: Heilbronn, Carmelites, S. 2. R-116(2) Second copy The last line of [k7r] reads ‘claruit. Monasterium Rubeimontis fundatur ab incolis loci illius, [et] per willerium comitem gruerie dotatur'. Binding: Nineteenth-century calf; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers; the title in gilt on a red leather label on the spine; marbled pastedowns. Size: 313 × 219 × 23 mm. Size of leaf: 301 × 203 mm. Marginal notes in a fifteenth-century Spanish hand, supplying ‘nota' marks and naming popes. Folio numbering, pointing hands, underlining, and many ‘nota' marks are supplied in a sixteenth-century hand. On recto of rear endleaf are manuscript notes in Spanish in a late sixteenth-century Spanish hand about a planned work(?), commencing ‘La que ma obligo o tractar al delante | En la ystoria de alexandro magna el suzesso que passava en tõzes | en españa y la [ ] revelaciones contra cartas | quien fue aristoteles y todos libros que conpusso . . .' ‘4', ‘42', and ‘120-701' and an inscription in brown ink on recto of front endleaf; on verso of the same leaf ‘189' in pencil. Some woodcuts are painted in red. Provenance: Balthasar Barreira (1531-1612); see inscription: ‘Ex Bibliotheca D. Balthasaris a Gunnea'. In an anonymous sale (London: Sotheby's, 9 Feb. 1837), lot 299 is described as ‘A very curious collection of seventeen different editions of the Fasciculus Temporum, printed at various places from 1476 to 1518 . . .' In Sotheby's annotated catalogue this lot is marked down to B[andinel?] for £5. 0. 0; however, in Library Bills (1837-8), no. 30, lot 299 is priced at £5. 5. 0; in Books Purchased (1837), 33, only eight editions are listed with a purchase price of £6. 7. 6 for all eight; one of the items listed is referred to as ‘fol. s.l. 1481', probably this copy.
